It's a real feature with a real effect — but it's one of several mounting styles, and marketing has blurred what the term even means. Tray mount — the old default

The plate assembly screws onto posts rising from the case floor. Cheap to make, which is why generations of budget boards used it, and its flaw follows directly: keys directly over a post feel firmer than keys between posts, so the typing feel is inconsistent across the board.
